look for the wattage on each, as you get charged for the kilowatt per hour, e.g. an appliance, may have a wattage of 200 watts, therefore every 5 hours that app. will use 1 k/watt of power, a light bulb say 100 watt will take 10 hours, and so on

Do you know the square footage of your apt? My guess is if it's about 500 sq ft., I would think a 10,000 BTU air conditioner would do it. Hope this helps.

In cooling the inside air the air conditioner creates heat and in turn needs to exlpel that heated air to the outside.

They don't actually require outside air; they ventilate the hot air to the outdoors.

If I understand air conditioning basics correctly, the room's air is sucked into the air conditioner throught the front panel (usually it's the panel with the filter in it), run through a compressor (which removes water from the air), then over the tubing with the coolant in it (thus cooling the air.) The dehumidified, cooled air is then blown back into the room.

If you feel the air coming out of the back of an air conditioner, it is hot, and it is indeed being blown out. I could be wrong, but I think that's the resulting heat generated by all the machinery inside the air conditioner being exhausted into the outside air.
