Large Upstairs Apartment- What Size Air Conditioner Should I Get?

I have a fairly open upstairs apartment. The living room and dining room are mostly the open part. The kitchen is down a sliiiight hall from the dining room, and then off that is another small hall with my 3 bedrooms and bathroom.
Should I buy one big air conditioner or a few small ones?

    you really need to calculate the square footage b-4 making that decision.but judging by your desciption several small ones !

    I would buy one with at least 18,000 btu.
