How To Soundproof A Portable Air Conditioner?

I have a portable air conditioner, one of those air conds that are on wheels and look like R2D2. The problem is its quite noisy. It may sound crazy but as a last ditch effort I’m considering building an egg carton box around it but getting the dimensions right ie lining up the air vent is the big challenge. Can anyone suggest how this could be done? I’ve also looked at sound proof foam but have heard repeatably that egg cartons are the best.

I think you insulation box would be a effort in futility as your problem is the design of the beast itself, not its surround.
Sucking air in through small inlets then forcing it out through small outlets is your culprit, in accompaniment with the motor.
If you have hardwood floors, placing the unit on throw rugs while it’s operating will dampen the vibration to the wood.
You might try wrapping a large blanket around the unit to see if there is any difference.
Good luck…
Unplug the unit, then submerge it in a large container of water. Remove and allow to air dry for 12 years. In the meantime, look into buying a central air conditioner – they are the least noisy, if installed properly, of any type of A/C equipment…………Oy-Vay.
