How Can I Diagnose My Airconditioner Problem?

I have a Sharp airconditioner (window unit) which I bought from Costco last year (out of warranty now). It was working great in my old apartment. I moved 6 months ago and tried to install it in my new window. However, the unit does not cool at all. I hear the compressor come on after a couple of minutes but the air temperature is normal. I had not cleaned the filter for months, which I just did but it did not solve the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like might have lost your freon. You don’t say what size unit. You can buy the 5k BTU for around $100.

When you were moving did you damage the unit in any way? You might have caused a leak in the coolant line. If so you’d be better off just buying a new one. Most window units are not worth the cost of repair.

during your move did the unit wind up on it’s back ? if so you have oil in the Freon just have more Freon added- tell the person what happened and to replace the Freon
