Have A Whole House Airconditioner Making A Lot Of Noise?

The heat pump or air conditioner which is located outside the side of the house is making a racket when you turn it on. There is also no cool air coming from the system. I know that it probably needs service for freon but would like to see id anyone knows weather this could be fixed or needs a whole new unit. Money is tight and the unit is 15 years old. On the furnace a note placed by a local company was written down about the a/c but I don’t have a clue what it means. Can anyone help. feel free to write if you need additional info.

An outdoor unit that’s making a racket is usually one of two things. The easiest thing to check is the condenser fan motor. Check that the fan blade rotates easily, that it isn’t hitting the shroud around the fan blades, that the fan blades are balance and not wobbling excessively, and that the condenser fan motor is mounted securely. If the racket is more internal in the outdoor unit, then you probably have a broken mounting spring inside the compressor. In that case, you’ll need to have the compressor replaced. Being that the unit is 15 years old, you’d probably be better off to just replace the outdoor unit. The time in labor will be about the same, or less than replacing the compressor, and the efficiency of the newer unit will save you operating costs in the long run.

the only thing you can do is have someone look at it.
