Does Anyone Know What Maintenance/cleaning Is Required For Evaporative Air Conditioners On The Roof?
I have been in my house for 3 years and have noticed that the ducted air-con doesnt seem as cold as last year. I seem to remember hearing something about washing out pads? but have no idea what this means or entails. Any help greatly appreciated.

You should change the pads once a year. as the rest of the maintenance it is fairly simple if you are at all mechanically inclined.first unplug the main switch it should either have a plug in type or a fuse type that you pull out and turn off your water supply valve. then you need to drain the cooler by unscrewing the drain tube, then clean the bottom of any debris , if needed (rust) they make a special paint made for cooler pans to coat the bottom. oil your motor if it has oil filler caps and also your shaft bearings if they have caps. if no caps they are sealed and you have no need to .Check your belt tension and belt Next put back your drain tube and turn on the water. there will be a float either a floating ball or one like on your toilet you need to make sure it shuts the water off before it runs over the drain pipe basically just like a toilet. now you need to set your t-stat or whatever you use to turn it on to on. then plug it back in and check to make sure your pump is working and supplying water to all the nozzle’s at the top make sure your fan motor is running and turning in the right direction. replace your filters and put back your sides of the cooler and that’s it.
Air conditioning, and evaporative coolers, are two entirely separate things. And, I’ve never seen an evaporative cooler connected to a household duct system, although I imagine it’s possible.
If you have an evaporative cooler, you’d have a metal box about 3′ square on the top of your roof someplace, and inside it are pads made of wood excelsier that water drips over. Yes, after 3 years without maintenance, these will probably need replaced. But there’s more work involved than that, and I’m not sure you even have these. You’d also have to have a way to get on the roof to check them.
I’d want to hear more information on this, the explanations of what might be wrong could get pretty lengthy without having some more clues first.
