Do People Still Use Air Conditioners In Places Where It’s Hot But Dry?

I’ve always wondered if people from areas (Phoenix, Baghdad, etc) where it’s like 100+ in the summer and humidity is under 20% still use air conditioners. I live in the Northeast and I’ve never been to those hot and dry places so I wonder how it’s like when it’s hot but comfortable.

Yes of course they do. You can also use an evaporative cooler or ’swamp cooler’ as they are called in areas with lower humidity. It uses very little in electricity and can lower the temperature dramatically. A swamp cooler is essentially a large box-like frame containing a big fan and walled in by water-wetted pads, usually made of cedar shavings or cellulose. The fan whooshes the hot outside air through the dripping pads (which are continually soaked by a water pump), cooling the air by about 20 ºF as the air evaporates water molecules from the pads. The fan then blows the water-cooled air through the house and out a deliberate vent.
Wet the back of your hand — then blow on it. Your skin surface feels cooler. That’s evaporative cooling. Plus the cedar smells nice.
Ya they do. I live in Flower Mound, Texas (suburb outside of Dallas) and we definitely use air conditioners. They help us stay cool when its 100 degrees.
