Is there a safe way to vent a window air conditioner without placing the a/c in a window. Allowing for moisture condensation and letting water drip into a tray inside the house, are there any specific problems or dangers without a vent to outdoors?

You need air exchange with the outside environment. An A.C. unit doesn’t make cold it removes heat and dumps it outside. If you run a unit indoors it doesn’t do anything because it just circulates the hot air it just circulated.

Your defeating the purpose of air conditioning because the purpose of venting is to let all the hot air go out of the window.
One side of the A/C unit vents cold air, while the other vents hot air
