Air Conditioner — How Long Does Water Drip After Turned Off?

I know its a silly question, but I’d like to ask..
How long does water drip from the air conditioner after turning it off?
When it’s turned off, does it take over an hour for it to stop dripping from outside?

It depends on the humidity level in the ambient air. Its just like when you have a glass of ice water on a humid day and the outside of the glass collects condensation or moisture from the air. Thats all that is going on inside the air conditioner and there is nothing to worry about. Nothing is leaking.

No it should not. Your evaporator coil is probably icing up. Then when your ac shuts off the ice melts. That is why it drips so long.

sometimes the reason it drips is the moisture in the air freezes on the coil and if you Live in a hot humid climate the you could have a lot of frost on your coils and be slow running out

Yes. It all depends on how long the system has run and how humid. The longer it runs the more condensation that is on the coil and that takes time to drain. At no time should there be frost or ice on the evaporator. If that is happening then there are other things that need to be checked.Hopefully thats enough to help.I do HVAC service work 7 days a week.

Yes that is normal, that is condensate that was probably frozen on the evaporator dripping off after the unit comes back down to temperature……So as it melts off it drips down into the pan. Now if your unti isnt working well that could freeze up and not work as well, so if your having trouble freezing up is a sign of low refrigerant and it may have a small leak needing a proper charge or repair done by pros
    Good luck

Assuming that you are asking about a window or sleeve type air conditioner, seems that if it is dripping for over an hour after its turned off , the drain on the base of the unit is likely plugged and not allowing the water to drain properly as well as the whole base of the unit could be dirty If you have not had it cleaned on a yearly basis. Even more critical if the condenser coil is dirty it;s costing you more to run the A/C and putting the compressor under higher stress and eventual failure . Good luck .
